SIMATIC S7-1200 G1 discontinued: deadlines and successor
The first generation of the SIMATIC S7-1200 (G1) enters its phase-out. For series machines and existing plants this means: calculate demand, secure remaining stock, plan the G2 successor. The deadlines at a glance.
The dates according to Siemens
- 1 November 2026: start of the phase-out (product notice PM400) for the SIMATIC S7-1200 G1: CPUs 1211C, 1212C, 1214C, 1215C, 1217C, signal modules SM 12xx, signal boards and communication modules CM 12xx.
- Expected until October 2027: new goods orderable through regular sales; discontinuation afterwards. Siemens states the exact last order date per part number in SiePortal.
- Spare part phase: Siemens plans spare part supply until about 2036.
The dates apply to the product family; individual part numbers may differ. The lifecycle status per part number in the Siemens Industry Mall or SiePortal is binding.
Successor: SIMATIC S7-1200 G2
Siemens names the S7-1200 G2 as the successor generation. It is not a plug-in alternative: G2 CPUs require TIA Portal V20 or later, the project is migrated, and G1 signal modules and signal boards cannot be used on G2 CPUs. For machine builders with series products this is a design topic, for operators a question of remaining plant life.
What to do now
- Take stock. Which G1 part numbers are installed in machines and plants, with version and firmware? For series machines: a bill of materials per machine type.
- Calculate demand until October 2027. Until then new goods are expected to be orderable regularly; afterwards only remaining stock and the spare parts service. Anyone shipping series machines with G1 into 2028 should secure the demand now.
- Define a spare parts reserve. For existing plants running beyond 2027, a reserve per critical number; the spare part phase until 2036 covers repairs, but not every module at every time.
- Set alerts. Create an obsolescence alert for all affected numbers; we report later discontinuations of accessories and modules.
- Plan the migration to G2. With your integrator or your own engineering: TIA Portal V20, new hardware structure, acceptance.
How ZWOD helps
We source S7-1200 G1 as new goods in original packaging while regularly orderable, and afterwards from remaining stock at distributors in several countries; source and condition are stated in the quotation. Send the bill of materials through the BOM check and you receive availability, price and lead time per line, usually within two hours on business days. All S7-1200 numbers are in the 6ES7 family.
As of September 2026. Dates according to Siemens product notices; the lifecycle status per part number in SiePortal is binding. Product names and trademarks belong to their respective manufacturers. For Siemens, ZWOD is an independent trader, not an authorised partner; technical approval of a successor is the operator's decision.
